Whatever

就像意想不到Noel會唱Oasis的歌，我也不曾料到自己最受觸動的一首曲子會是”Whatever”，這樣的情況或許多少和歌曲的背景有關。”Whatever”在1994年尾是以單曲的形式發行，並未收錄在任何專輯之中(但有收在2010年解散後的全單曲合輯”Time Files… 1994-2009”內)，Oasis的演唱會，尤其在英國並不常把這首歌放進曲目裡，到不是因為此曲知名度不高，或是不受歌迷喜愛，事實上這張夾在Oasis一鳴驚人的首兩張大碟”Definitely Maybe”和”(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”間的單曲，雖從未登上全英每週冠軍(最高位列第三)，卻雄踞榜上長達51週，甚至2010年還隨著”Time Files… 1994-2009”的發行重回排行榜，堪稱Oasis最長銷長賣的單曲之一。使得”Whatever”長期被刻意忽視最主要的原因，是Liam打從頭就不喜歡這首歌曲，早在1996年Maine Road的第一晚，Liam唱完丟了一句”Glad you all liked it, I thought it was a pile of shit!”，第二天更是和老哥幹開，沒兩句就不唱了，但Noel在群眾的唱合下完成了此曲，Liam站也不是蹲也不是相當尷尬，從此”Whatever”就算出現也幾乎都由Noel包辦，Liam是不會上台的，雖然依照這樣的模式偶而還是會驚喜地出現在表演中，但Liam主唱Noel用Beatles的”Octopus Garden”銜置過門的經典場面卻告絕響。Liam為何如此深惡痛絕”Whatever”不得而知，我個人倒是認為歌詞還滿符合他跩跩愛耍性子的形象，只能說，兩兄弟什麼鬼事都搞得出來，是歌迷也該習慣了。

我並非第一次在現場聽到”Whatever”，解散前在Wembley還看到Noel唱了這首歌，當時就是覺得幸運碰上難得的驚喜，說不上多麼感動，想將來機會還多得是，但這次不一樣了，一來沒有預期，二來”Whatever”恰恰勾起往事只能回味的感傷，霎時間眼淚都快掉了下來。不過事後想想，Noel應該很樂意每次都唱讓老弟下不了台的歌曲，那些原本是Liam主唱的才希望渺茫些。
