這些年來已經較少留意流行音樂動向，但並不代表沒有新人讓我一聽難忘，而近年我最著迷的新晉歌手，就屬Paloma Faith。當然，他能唱能創作，嬌小的身軀迸發出不可思議的力道，但更重要的是，他是近年少數從聲音到表演都兼備個人特色的歌唱者。視Billie Holiday和Etta James為偶像的Paloma，音樂帶有濃厚60年代Jazz和Soul的味道，加上自幼習舞和Central St. Martin劇場導演的學業背景，以及酒店駐唱和魔術師助手等多元表演歷練，舞台上的Paloma總是華服迎人，舉手投足都像是一場大戲，在近十年選秀歌手當道的娛樂圈，一個更像是秀場走出來，形象、定位清楚，表演老練的新人，確實不多見。而那看似人來瘋，天生極具媒體親和力的能耐也是一絕，看看他在流行音樂節目”Never Mind the
Buzzcocks”一眾老江湖環伺下，見招拆招，口齒機伶絲毫不落下風，每次都玩得又有趣又放得開，可說都是全集焦點，還逐漸培養出螢幕上看固定來賓Noel Fielding的化學效應，真是有他的一套。這次演唱會更見識到小妮子獨當一面的功力，演唱實力自不消說，串場和觀眾閒扯淡，氣氛掌控地有如Liza Minneli般輕鬆有趣，不忘傳達首歌想法意念，卻全然不感任何雕琢的痕跡，讓人覺得就是臨場隨興所至，才是厲害，也更增添Paloma那份從美好昔日走出來的感覺，那個Lulu和Cilla Black等歌星在電視台主持自己音樂節目的搖擺歲月，現在幾難已復見。有時候我會想，當今英倫年輕一輩女歌手，誰還有這等功夫，可能就屬Paloma與Lily Allen了，而Lily可愛、討喜或許猶有勝之，但要掌控一場大秀，恐怕除Paloma還是不做第二人想。Hackney小孩，在老家倫敦開唱自然備感親切，樂團編制亦十分合拍，這已經是Paloma和Guy Baker Orchestra第三度合作了，顯然輕鬆自在，選”New York”貼在這，一來呼應以前寫過的Liza Minneli個唱，二來這本來就是我最喜愛的Paloma歌曲之一，應該最早也是因為此曲注意到他的，另外，經過Amy Winehouse、Duffy、Adele、Emeli Sandé和Paloma Faith，要說當代流行樂壇的Jazz/ Soul/ R&B女聲復興在英國並不為過，倫敦就是新世紀女聲之都，一如上世紀後半葉的紐約。
